1965 Plymouth Fury III Wagon

I’ve been having a lot of fun with the toned tan paper lately. I’m a sucker for wagons, especially the very square, sharp edge wagons of the mid-sixties. Among them is the Fury III which looks great in all body styles, especially wagon.

Like the bus, this one started off as a pencil sketch using regular #2 pencil. I love slot mag wheels – they look great on just about everything – and they’re easy to draw. The front wheels are straight on full circles, and the rear wheels are 60-degree ellipses. This creates a cool fish-eye effect where the front wheel and fender are perpendicular to the viewer’s perspective, and the rear of vehicle curves off to the vanishing point.
After I got the perspective right, I put in my ink lines with 01 and 02 Micron pen to give some depth. Charcoal white came next – my favorite part on toned tan. Look at it pop!

Next, I added some Copic tan tones with some cool grays in the shaded areas. There is a gray fade in the car’s shadow area – dark to light toward the viewer.

Finally, I added some light white shading in the body of the car, and surrounded it with a yellow splash and tight white outline.
